Very Important Lesson I learned today:

Forgetting 2 mini bouncy balls at the pizza restaurant (where 6 year old son had a end of season soccer party) will result in lots of tears.............and a case of bad mother guilt because I didn't go back and get the .25 cent bouncy balls.

First day of school 2009

We made it through the first day of school! Seems like the only tears came from me. Josh was nervous, walking to the building he asked me, "What if I can't find my way out?" I reassured him that his teacher would help him with everything he needed help with. After school he met me with a smile on his face and is happy to go back tomorrow!
Michael is an old pro at school and had a great day. He's most happy that he got a teacher that he wanted!

Last night we had our Awana Grand Prix at church. We did super well with Michael taking 3rd place for speed, his friend dakota taking fourth in speed and Katy taking 4th place in design. Joshua's cubbie car won first in his race, but he didn't get a trophy because Cubbies just race for fun. It was super fun!

Last week was Spring Break for us, I decided we needed to go to the Tulsa Zoo. It has been years since I've last been there. But I think that 95 % of Oklahoma also had the same great idea, because it was crowded! Later in the week, we also visited the local Caney, KS zoo that has the tiger cubs who were raised by the golden retriever.

It was a great week, but I'm not sure the boys are ready to head back to school. I enjoyed sleeping in a little later and not rushing about to get out of the house on time. I am looking forward to summer.

it's been awhile. Basketball season is done. Michael is recovering well from his shoulder injury. This picture is bad. Goes along with the injury, I suppose. I haven't taken a picture in weeks. I'm trying to gear up for the next few months that are super, crazy, unbelievably, busy, busy, busy. Before I turn around three times, it will be july. So, bear with me, I haven't given up on this blog completely, it goes in phases and right now is a very slow phase.

Okay, this is something new for me. I don't usually enter contest and participate in a lot of goings on in the blogosphere, but I found a new photography blog, iHeartFaces, that is hosting weekly contest and I thought why not?! I'm truly an amateur at photography, but I would like to learn how to take better photos. They have categories for adult or kids and this week the theme is "anything goes".
I love this photo of my son, michael, taken during a warm summer rain. My boys love to play out in the rain. I especially love the details, like the drop of water falling from his ear.

Wow, I can't believe it's almost the end of another year. Time is flying by so fast. We spent a good part of the Christmas Day watching home videos. Michael got a good laugh watching himself as a 4 yr old and Josh loved the part where he puked on Michael when he was a baby. I just loved watching the boys and seeing how far we have come as a family, in just a few days the boys will be 5 and 10 yrs old. Lots of good memories we've made.

***I have to say the picture of Josh may look like he is smiling at me, but in fact he is yelling at me to not take his picture and throwing his hand up in protest.

So it's been another very busy week/weekend. It seems we don't get much of a break this time of year. This weekend we attended a christmas party, rode a christmas train, celebrated at a Happy Birthday Jesus party, and watched a Christmas county spelling bee program along with other not so exciting stuff. It's no surprise Josh fell asleep at school again today, during rest time of course. The boy is tired.
Now the weather has gone and got downright frigid! Today's high was 19 degrees. And I don't like it.
Thankfully, this weekend, the calendar is empty, of course there is christmas shopping to finish and housework to be done but that's okay.

I was abruptly woke early this morning by Josh's demand, "Mom, come here, help me". There was no fear in his voice, no crying. I stumble over to his room and find his pillows on the floor. I pick up the pillows, crawl into bed with him and pull up the covers, hoping for another hour of sleep. I wrap my arm around his little warm body, he tucks his feet under my legs and snuggles as close as he can get and says.......Perfect. Yes, it is perfect.

almost over! Today was Mike's last game of the season. Two minutes after he got his medal, it broke. Two minutes after that, he found $5 on the ground.
Josh's game was at the same time as Mike's. Josh's team had 4 players show up but only two played most of the game. The other two were either rolling in the grass or taking a break.

It's been another extremely busy week. Camping trip, soccer games, parent/teacher conferences, birthdays and more. Life. But today is all about one fantastic boy, my Mikey. I swore before he was born that I would call him nothing but Michael, but that didn't happen. Today we are celebrating his birthday, 10 years. Wow, I'm feeling old! He is really a great kid, this morning at church someone talked about how helpful he was in children's church, helping with the smaller kids. His teacher commented that she never has to get on him at school. What more could a mom ask for? Straight A's, he's got them. I am so proud of him, for being a kind, helpful, fun loving, game playing, Lego building, 80's music loving, kid! Happy Birthday Mikey!

When a busy week, goes bad.....

Last week was going to be hard under normal circumstances, but when you throw in an electrical fire and no electricity it gets even worse. I am thanking God that the fire stopped when it did. The fire inspector said we were really blessed because if it had burned through the overhang the house would have been gone in a matter of minutes.
We finally have electricity again after a week without and I feel like we can get back to normal. Michael is feeling much better, but Josh has been sick. Barry's truck is out of the shop and God willing will not shut down again. Fall Break is here and we have no soccer this week. I'm looking forward to a very calm, uneventful week + weekend.

If you can, send us some happy thoughts, prayers, good vibrations this week. Numerous things are bringing us down. Michael is sick, losing his voice and I think it may be strep throat. Barry's truck is not working, it's been a problem since he bought it and we're not sure what the solution is. That leaves us with only one car and since he has to drive to tulsa for work, it leaves me to find other options. I'll be driving my mom's truck when I can but it will be lots of schedule juggling. On top of that it's an extremely busy week with field trips, pto meetings, soccer games, practices, volunteer meeting, school, church and work. I'm trying to not have an anxiety attack just thinking about it all and just go with the flow. So you probably won't hear from us much this coming week, the week after is fall break from school and I think we will need it.

We are up to our ears with soccer these days. Michael is doing very well, he has scored three goals already compared to zero last season. Josh is super fast and hasn't scored a goal yet, but I'm sure that will change today. His games are late in the afternoon around 3 to 4 pm and for some four year olds that is prime melt down time. Last week half his team was crying and leaving the field during the game. Josh ended up playing the entire time.
It's been a juggling act to get both boys to practices and games each week. But also a lot of fun!

Oh man, As I sit here, letting this lotion burn the hair off my upper lip and chin, I've been thinking back over the weekend. It was weird. I started out in the mindset, Oh I've got so much to do over the weekend, soccer games, church, financial class, etc, etc. and it didn't turn out anything like that. Soccer games were canceled, it rained, we skipped church, (shame on us) and we ended up with a cat? How the heck did that happen? anyhoo, it's a very busy week for us, I have to set halloween cards at all my accounts, the usual school and soccer practice and Awanas along with getting ready for some out of town visitors. Barry's parents are stopping by to see us during their trip to colorado. It's hard to believe the kids and I haven't seen them since we moved. It's been almost 2 years. Wow.
And the kitten has already had a name change, from patricia (josh wanted patrick if it was a boy so we went w/patricia) to Hannah (or hannah montanna as josh calls her). It's much easier to call a kitten hannah than patricia, it just didn't work.
Now I feel my lip tingling.

It's been a bummer of a day. The boys both had soccer games scheduled for today but it rained all morning. Josh was so excited and ready to play in a game. He's watched michael for so long that he was glad it was going to be his turn to play. Oh well, next weekend will be fun with more games! We went shopping for a mattress, not fun at all, didn't find anything we really liked and could afford. Plus when we got in the new truck to go shopping I found about 4 inches of water in the floor board. REally not fun!

I tried really, really hard to wait. I just couldn't stand it any longer. I'm guilty. I (it's almost hard to say) got the Halloween decorations out of the garage. There, I admit, I'm a holiday junkie. I was so thrilled to see the decorations starting to appear in all the stores. Barry did inform that it's still 60 some days until Halloween, but I just got excited. We aren't decorating per say, just going through our stuff, cleaning some out to make room for new, taking inventory of what we have and what we need. Getting all kinds of ideas. Yeah, I'm so excited........

Fair

We went to the fair this weekend. It is a small town fair, Barry kept asking is this it? Yes, dear, this is what a fair is in small town, USA. Josh and I spent most of the time in the Childrens Barn, looking at all the baby animals. His favorite, the miniature pony, not much bigger than a dog. The kids got to pet a rabbit and a baby chick.

We are now in school mode, early bedtime, I still have to wake Josh up some mornings. Josh has grown leaps and bounds in independence, just this week, he has completely dressed himself, every day, with no help from mom at all. I know we probably should have already reached this milestone of dressing, but really I'm in no rush.
I think school is going to be so good for Josh, I was concerned about putting him in a class with 3 & 4's together, thinking he might get bored academically, but socially I think it's just what he needs. Big relief!

Today, I'm enjoying my first day at home with both boys in school. It's very quiet in the house. I usually work while they're both in school but the repair guy came to fix the dryer today. Seems the birds thought the vent was a good place to build a nest.

I can't believe he is already in fourth grade. The first picture is the first day of kindergarten. He was so excited and ready for school this morning, I know his picture doesn't show that, but he is almost ten and most of the time is showing off how "cool" he is. I just hope he is still excited after the day is over. I was a little discouraged after the open house yesterday and finding out some of the kids in his class. There are a few kids (and parents) that I wish he (+me) didn't have in class. But we shall make due, and go on. I hope this is a great year for him, Lord knows I have said many prayers for him today!

to be counting down the days until school starts? It's one week from Wed. for Michael and 11 days for Josh. We've been talking alot about school to prepare Josh, but he's been acting out alot the last few days. Alot of negative behavior. He isn't enthusiastic about going to school. I was asking him questions about school and he sat on the couch, covered his ears and said "I can't hear you". I'm not sure how to deal with that. I'm just hoping that once he gets there he will see how great it can be, (preschool that is). He did agree to me packing a pb&j for his lunch, so maybe we're making some progress.

Basketball camp started off a little rough for Josh. He got a fat lip from the rim of the goal before they even got started. I'm not exactly sure how, I looked over to see him crying and being carried out. An ice pack and a few minutes later, he was a pro! I think he'll be ready to go back again today.

Arm pit stinkin, brow sweatin', pig snortin' H.O.T. I haven't taken a picture in days, so here's a picture from our mini camping trip earlier in the month.

--July's been a busy month (where did the summer go?). Josh has basketball camp for two days this week. I can't wait to see that! He's been running around the house doing "exercises" to get ready for b-ball camp. Also trying to get his preschool registration done this week.

--Michael is ready for school to start, he says he's bored at home. That will last about three days once school starts, he'll be wishing he's at home. He's going to spend the next three weeks catching up and reviewing the basics.

--Both boys are signed up for Fall soccer. That should be fun! I'm almost looking forward to school starting but it means even more activities start and I'll have two school schedules, and two sports schedules to try and keep up with along with church activities. I better get organized now.

--I will miss these lazy summer mornings where I don't even begin to think about anything productive before 10 am. We've been sleeping in and taking it easy, but when school starts we have to be out the door by 8:40. Yikes!

After the week I've had I'm not surprised that this happened. But, we went to see my nephew, Daniel, in High School Musical (stage production) today. This was the third out of five shows they are performing, but this show, was the one we all came to watch and he misses his big scene!!!! Somebody wasn't doing there job backstage and called him to get ready too late! He did do some dancing and singing in other scenes, and did a great job, but we missed seeing his speaking part. Oh well. The dancing and singing were great and we are very proud of his performance!
